Guangzhou Government Signs Contracts in Russia, Ukraine and UK

Representative from Monster Worldwide Limited, one of the world's largest recruitment websites, and the Guangzhou Municipal HR & Social Security Bureau sign contracts in co-operation for soliciting overseas talent for China.

The People's Government of Guangzhou Municipality's newest promotion, "New Guangzhou, New Business Opportunities" has come to its European stops. The delegation visited Russia's St. Petersburg, Ukraine's Kiev and UK's Birmingham on June 27, 29 and July 1 respectively.

St. Petersburg was the first stop of the promotion in Europe. At that conference, the Guangzhou government signed 30 letters of intent and 14 co-operation programs within the Commonwealth of Independent States. Including Russia, Ukraine and The Republic of Belarus, the agreements cover cultural exchange, technology research and training exchanges between both, academic institutes and governmental officials.

The Guangzhou Acrobatic Troupe and the St. Petersburg National Circus Troupe has agreed upon a visit exchange and training till December 2011. Six performances by the Russian National Song And Dance Troupe will come to Guangzhou this October during the annual Guangzhou Art Festival.

Ukraine's capital, Kiev, is famous for its organ welding operation. The process, which allows for live organs to be to closed after surgery without sutures, has been tried clinically in Ukraine for over 7 years. The technique is touted to speed up the time of recovery, reduce bleeding and the cost of the operation.

On June 27, the affiliate hospitals of Sun Yat-sen University and the Ukraine National Institute of Technology have reached an initiative agreement for research co-operation, with plans to set up a research center in the Guangzhou-based Sun Yat-sen Unversity Nansha Institute. Gong Erzhen, the vice governor of Guangdong province, will also welcome Ukrainian academics to join the first session of Guangzhou's Science Technology Expo this December.


On July 1, the delegation arrived in one of Guangzhou's sister cities, the British city of Birmingham. In partnership with the University of Birmingham, approximately 300 participants have attended the "New Guangzhou, New Business Opportunities" conference, including Birmingham business leaders and Chinese students and scholars from across the UK.

The University of Birmingham will build a research center in Guangzhou. The research center is due to open in September and has planned to launch 9 scientific projects in biology, medicine, new energy and new materials. In October, 10 students will take up the first scholarships for Chinese nationals to study PhDs at Birmingham.

The Guangzhou College of Medicine was the main role at the conference. It has signed three co-operational pacts: general medicine study with the University of Birmingham, preventive medicine education with the University of Wolverhampton and a bachelor-master-PhD education program with the University of Edinburgh.

The "New Guangzhou, New Business Opportunities" has been held in Beijing and Shanghai as well as the U.S., South Korea and The Philippines. It plans to go to China's Xi'an, Kunming, Hong Kong and Macau to solicit more investment and co-operation.
