Japanese and Koreans: Largest Percentage of Permanent Foreigners in Guangzhou_Life of Guangzhou

Among permanent or long-term foreign residents, people from which country account for the largest percentage? The Guangzhou Daily reports that governmental data until the middle of last year shows that over 340,000 foreigners are permanent residents in the Guangzhou city – the numbers of Japanese, Korean, American, Canadian and Indian take the first five places.

The police show that there are about 5,000 Japanese, 3,300 Korean and 2,800 American nationals permanently living in Guangzhou. Over one million foreigners are temporarily living or stay for a while here.

Yuanjing Lu, the road famous for the Korean community and Korean restaurants, has been better well-known in South Korea. The Koreans gathered here about 20 years ago for business because it is close to the railway station and old airport. Gradually they built up their trade companies and restaurants in the area. About 700 foreigners including 300 Koreans are currently living on Yuanjing Lu, and approximately 9000 Korean travelers travel there each year. Known as "Korean Street," the place has 17 registered Korean companies, 4 Korean supermarkets and more than 40 Korean restaurants.

According to the survey, Japanese love to live in the Tianhe Bei Lu, Zhujiang New Town and Baiyun Dadao Avenue while the Americans are keen on Tianhe Bei Lu, Zhujiang New Town, Ersha Island and Huanshi Lu.
